The Florida Institute for Neurologic Rehabilitation, Inc. specializes in the
treatment of children and adolescents with Traumatic Brain Injury and other
neurologic impairments.
Through a family-centered approach, FINR is dedicated to developing
individualized treatment programs designed to teach children with Brain Injury
the skills necessary to live in the least restrictive environment and
successfully re-enter their home community and educational system.
Specialized Services Include:
- Integrated Transdisciplinary Services: Physical, Occupational, and
Speech Therapies, Neurologist, NeuroPsychologist, NeuroPsychiatrist, Nurses,
Dietician, Recreation Therapy, Certified Behavioral Analyst, Case
Management, and Certified Teachers.
- TBI School: Educational services by certified teachers providing
direct instruction with low teacher to student ratios. Accredited
school authenticating grades, credits, IEP's, and diplomas.
- Health Education Services: 24 hour nursing; weekly consultation
with Internist, Neurologist, Neuropsychiatrist, weekly self regulated
medication classes.
- Recreation/Leisure: Recreation therapist does functional assessment
and coordinates client preferred activities on and off campus.
- Skilled Therapies: Therapists provide services in cabins, school,
and community during early mornings, evenings, and weekends to ensure
functional integration.
- Residential: "Non-institutional" cabin based programming.
Each child has a private room and bath with low child to staff ratio.
Nightly cabin meetings are conducted for teaching purposes and to gather
input from the children regarding their program (i.e. treatment
planning/activities).
- Treatment Planning: RIC-FAS treatment planning emphasizing
child/family/provider input (minimum of two monthly conferences). Our
professional staff utilizes the most advanced clinical treatment approaches
to achieve optimal functional outcomes. Comprehensive progress reports are
generated in a timely fashion for family, funder, and referral source.
- Case Management Services: Family/funder access to Case Manager 24
hours daily.
- Behavioral Programming: Individualized behavioral/motivational
programs implemented 24 hours daily through multiple trials of preventive
and corrective teaching using an 8:1 balance of positive reinforcement to
corrective teaching.
- Parent/Child Training: Program Director provides parenting and
behavior management training to children and parents during the day, night,
and on week-ends.
- Parent/Loved Ones Training: Family and potential caregivers are
encouraged to participate in programming to ensure a successful discharge.
- Social Skills Acquisition: 24 hour a day social skills teaching
environment (i.e. Following Instructions, Accepting No, Accepting
Compliments, Accepting Consequences, Eye Contact, etc., through role play
and practice).
- Proactive Discharge Planning: Beginning during the referral and
admissions process.
